Delve deeper into the weekly portions of Deuteronomy
Deuteronomy is a word of Greek origin meaning “Second Law,” and it designates the final book of the five attributed to Moses. In Hebrew, this book is called D’varim (pronounced devarim), which simply means “Words,” taken from the opening word of the text.
This book consists of three speeches delivered by Moses to the children of Israel before his death, on the eastern side of the Jordan River, as he himself would not enter the Promised Land.
