The Faithfulness That Leaves a Lasting Legacy

¹⁰And Yehovah spake unto Moshe, saying, ¹¹Pinchas, the son of El’azar, the son of Aharon the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Isra’el, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them, so that I consumed not the children of Isra’el in my jealousy. ¹²Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace: ¹³and it shall be unto him, and to his seed after him, the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was jealous for his God, and made atonement for the children of Isra’el. 

¹⁴Now the name of the man of Isra’el that was slain, who was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a fathers’ house among the Shim’onites. ¹⁵And the name of the Midyanite woman that was slain was Kozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head of the people of a fathers’ house in Midyan. 

¹⁶And Yehovah spake unto Moshe, saying, ¹⁷Vex the Midyanim, and smite them; ¹⁸for they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of P’or, and in the matter of Kozbi, the daughter of the prince of Midyan, their sister, who was slain on the day of the plague in the matter of P’or. 

26 And it came to pass after the plague, that Yehovah spake unto Moshe and unto El’azar the son of Aharon the priest, saying, ²Take the sum of all the congregation of the children of Isra’el, from twenty years old and upward, by their fathers’ houses, all that are able to go forth to war in Isra’el. ³And Moshe and El’azar the priest spake with them in the plains of Mo’av by the Yarden at Yericho, saying, ⁴Take the sum of the people, from twenty years old and upward; as Yehovah commanded Moshe and the children of Isra’el, that came forth out of the land of Egypt. 

⁵Re’uven, the first-born of Isra’el; the sons of Re’uven: of Hanokh, the family of the Hanokhi; of Pallu, the family of the Pallu’i; ⁶of Hetzron, the family of the Hetzroni; of Karmi, the family of the Karmi. ⁷These are the families of the Re’uveni; and they that were numbered of them were forty and three thousand and seven hundred and thirty. ⁸And the sons of Pallu: Eli’av. ⁹And the sons of Eli’av: N’mu’el, and Datan, and Aviram. These are that Datan and Aviram, who were called of the congregation, who strove against Moshe and against Aharon in the company of Korach, when they strove against Yehovah, ¹⁰and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korach, when that company died; what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men, and they became a sign. ¹¹Notwithstanding, the sons of Korach died not. 

¹²The sons of Shim’on after their families: of N’mu’el, the family of the N’mu’eli; of Yamin, the family of the Yamini; of Yakhin, the family of the Yakhini; ¹³of Zerach, the family of the Zarchi; of Sha’ul, the family of the Sha’uli. ¹⁴These are the families of the Shim’oni, twenty and two thousand and two hundred. 

¹⁵The sons of Gad after their families: of Tz’fon, the family of the Tz’foni; of Haggi, the family of the Haggi; of Shuni, the family of the Shuni; ¹⁶of Ozni, the family of the Ozni; of ‘Eri, the family of the ‘Eri; ¹⁷of Arod, the family of the Arodi; of Ar’eli, the family of the Ar’eli. ¹⁸These are the families of the sons of Gad according to those that were numbered of them, forty thousand and five hundred. 

¹⁹The sons of Y’hudah: ‘Er and Onan; and ‘Er and Onan died in the land of Kena’an. ²⁰And the sons of Y’hudah after their families were: of Shelah, the family of the Shelani; of Peretz, the family of the Partzi; of Zerach, the family of the Zarchi. ²¹And the sons of Peretz were: of Hetzron, the family of the Hetzroni; of Hamul, the family of the Hamuli. ²²These are the families of Y’hudah according to those that were numbered of them, threescore and sixteen thousand and five hundred. 

²³The sons of Yissakhar after their families: of Tola, the family of the Tola’i; of Puvah, the family of the Puni; ²⁴of Yashub, the family of the Yashuvi; of Shimron, the family of the Shimroni. ²⁵These are the families of Yissakhar according to those that were numbered of them, threescore and four thousand and three hundred. ²⁶The sons of Z’vulun after their families: of Sered, the family of the Sardi; of Elon, the family of the Eloni; of Yachle’el, the family of the Yachle’eli. ²⁷These are the families of the Z’evuloni according to those that were numbered of them, threescore thousand and five hundred. 

²⁸The sons of Yosef after their families: M’nasheh and Efrayim. ²⁹The sons of M’nasheh: of Makhir, the family of the Makhiri; and Makhir begat Gil’ad: of Gil’ad, the family of the Gil’adi. ³⁰These are the sons of Gil’ad: of  I’ezer, the family of the I’ezri; of Helek, the family of the Helki; ³¹and of Asri’el, the family of the Asri’eli; and of Sh’khem, the family of the Shikhmi; ³²and of Sh’mida, the family of the Sh’midai; and of Hefer, the family of the Hefri. ³³And Tz’lof’chad the son of Hefer had no sons, but daughters: and the names of the daughters of Tz’lof’chad were Machlah, and No’ah, Hoglah, Milkah, and Tirtzah. ³⁴These are the families of M’nasheh; and they that were numbered of them were fifty and two thousand and seven hundred. 

³⁵These are the sons of Efrayim after their families: of Shutelach, the family of the Shutalchi; of Bekher, the family of the Bakhri; of Tachan, the family of the Tachani. ³⁶And these are the sons of Shuthelach: of ‘Eran, the family of the ‘Erani. ³⁷These are the families of the sons of Efrayim according to those that were numbered of them, thirty and two thousand and five hundred. These are the sons of Yosef after their families. 

³⁸The sons of Binyamin after their families: of Bela, the family of the Bal’i; of Ashbel, the family of the Ashbeli; of Achiram, the family of the Achirami; ³⁹of Sh’fufam, the family of the Shufami; of Hufam, the family of the Hufami. ⁴⁰And the sons of Bela were Ard and Na’aman: of Ard, the family of the Ardi; of Na’aman, the family of the Na’ami. ⁴¹These are the sons of Binyamin after their families; and they that were numbered of them were forty and five thousand and six hundred. 

⁴²These are the sons of Dan after their families: of Shucham, the family of the Shuchami. These are the families of Dan after their families. ⁴³All the families of the Shuchami, according to those that were numbered of them, were threescore and four thousand and four hundred. 

⁴⁴The sons of Asher after their families: of Yimnah, the family of the Yimnah; of Yishvi, the family of the Yishvi; of B’ri’ah, the family of the B’ri’i. ⁴⁵Of the sons of B’ri’ah: of Hever, the family of the Hevri; of Malki’el, the family of the Malki’eli. ⁴⁶And the name of the daughter of Asher was Serach. ⁴⁷These are the families of the sons of Asher according to those that were numbered of them, fifty and three thousand and four hundred. 

⁴⁸The sons of Naftali after their families: of Yachtze’el, the family of the Yachtze’eli; of Guni, the family of the Guni; ⁴⁹of Yetzer, the family of the Yitzri; of Shillem, the family of the Shillemi. ⁵⁰These are the families of Naftali according to their families; and they that were numbered of them were forty and five thousand and four hundred. 

⁵¹These are they that were numbered of the children of Isra’el, six hundred thousand and a thousand seven hundred and thirty. 

⁵²And Yehovah spake unto Moshe, saying, ⁵³Unto these the land shall be divided for an inheritance according to the number of names. ⁵⁴To the more thou shalt give the more inheritance, and to the fewer thou shalt give the less inheritance: to every one according to those that were numbered of him shall his inheritance be given. ⁵⁵Notwithstanding, the land shall be divided by lot: according to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit. ⁵⁶According to the lot shall their inheritance be divided between the more and the fewer. 

⁵⁷And these are they that were numbered of the Levites after their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershuni; of K’hat, the family of the K’hati; of M’rari, the family of the M’rari. ⁵⁸These are the families of Levi: the family of the Livni, the family of the Hevroni, the family of the Machli, the family of the Mushi, the family of the Korchi. And K’hat begat ‘Amram. ⁵⁹And the name of ‘Amram’s wife was Yokheved, the daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi in Egypt: and she bare unto ‘Amram Aharon and Moshe, and Miryam their sister. ⁶⁰And unto Aharon were born Nadav and Avihu, El’azar and Itamar. ⁶¹And Nadav and Avihu died, when they offered strange fire before Yehovah. ⁶²And they that were numbered of them were twenty and three thousand, every male from a month old and upward: for they were not numbered among the children of Isra’el, because there was no inheritance given them among the children of Isra’el. 

⁶³These are they that were numbered by Moshe and El’azar the cohen, who numbered the children of Isra’el in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho. ⁶⁴But among these there was not a man of them that were numbered by Moshe and Aharon the cohen, who numbered the children of Isra’el in the wilderness of Sinai. ⁶⁵For Yehovah had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save Kalev the son of Y’funeh, and Y’hoshua the son of Nun. 

27 Then drew near the daughters of Tz’lof’chad, the son of Hefer, the son of Gil’ad, the son of Machir, the son of M’nasheh, of the families of M’nasheh the son of Yosef; and these are the names of his daughters: Machlah, No’ah, and Hoglah, and Milkah, and Tirtzah. ²And they stood before Moshe, and before El’azar the cohen, and before the princes and all the congregation, at the door of the tent of meeting, saying, ³Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not among the company of them that gathered themselves together against Yehovah in the company of Korach: but he died in his own sin; and he had no sons. ⁴Why should the name of our father be taken away from among his family, because he had no son? Give unto us a possession among the brethren of our father. ⁵And Moshe brought their cause before Yehovah. 

⁶And Yehovah spake unto Moshe, saying, ⁷The daughters of Tz’lof’chad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father’s brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them. ⁸And thou shalt speak unto the children of Isra’el, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter. ⁹And if he have no daughter, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren. ¹⁰And if he have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his father’s brethren. ¹¹And if his father have no brethren, then ye shall give his inheritance unto his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it: and it shall be unto the children of Isra’el a statute and ordinance, as Yehovah commanded Moshe. 

¹²And Yehovah said unto Moshe, Get thee up into this mountain of ‘Avarim, and behold the land which I have given unto the children of Isra’el. ¹³And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy people, as Aharon thy brother was gathered; ¹⁴because ye rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the waters before their eyes. (These are the waters of M’rivat-Kadesh in the wilderness of Tzin.) 

¹⁵And Moshe spake unto Yehovah, saying, ¹⁶Let Yehovah, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation, ¹⁷who may go out before them, and who may come in before them, and who may lead them out, and who may bring them in; that the congregation of Yehovah be not as sheep which have no shepherd. ¹⁸And Yehovah said unto Moshe, Take thee Y’hoshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay thy hand upon him; ¹⁹and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight. ²⁰And thou shalt put of thine honor upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may obey. ²¹And he shall stand before El’azar the cohen, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before Yehovah: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Isra’el with him, even all the congregation. ²²And Moshe did as Yehovah commanded him; and he took Y’hoshua, and set him before El’azar the cohen, and before all the congregation: ²³and he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a charge, as Yehovah spake by Moshe. 

28 And Yehovah spake unto Moshe, saying, ²Command the children of Isra’el, and say unto them, My oblation, my food for my offerings made by fire, of a sweet savor unto me, shall ye observe to offer unto me in their due season. ³And thou shalt say unto them, This is the offering made by fire which ye shall offer unto Yehovah: he-lambs a year old without blemish, two day by day, for a continual burnt-offering. ⁴The one lamb shalt thou offer in the morning, and the other lamb shalt thou offer at even; ⁵and the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a meal-offering, mingled with the fourth part of a hin of beaten oil. ⁶It is a continual burnt-offering, which was ordained in mount Sinai for a sweet savor, an offering made by fire unto Yehovah. ⁷And the drink-offering thereof shall be the fourth part of a hin for the one lamb: in the holy place shalt thou pour out a drink-offering of strong drink unto Yehovah. ⁸And the other lamb shalt thou offer at even: as the meal-offering of the morning, and as the drink-offering thereof, thou shalt offer it, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto Yehovah. 

⁹And on the Shabbat day two he-lambs a year old without blemish, and two tenth parts of an ephah of fine flour for a meal-offering, mingled with oil, and the drink-offering thereof: ¹⁰this is the burnt-offering of every Shabbat, besides the continual burnt-offering, and the drink-offering thereof. 

¹¹And at each Rosh-Hodesh ye shall offer a burnt-offering unto Yehovah: two young bullocks, and one ram, seven he-lambs a year old without blemish; ¹²and three tenth parts of an ephah of fine flour for a meal-offering, mingled with oil, for each bullock; and two tenth parts of fine flour for a meal-offering, mingled with oil, for the one ram; ¹³and a tenth part of fine flour mingled with oil for a meal-offering unto every lamb; for a burnt-offering of a sweet savor, an offering made by fire unto Yehovah. ¹⁴And their drink-offerings shall be half a hin of wine for a bullock, and the third part of a hin for the ram, and the fourth part of a hin for a lamb: this is the burnt-offering for every Rosh-Hodesh throughout the months of the year. ¹⁵And one he-goat for a sin-offering unto Yehovah; it shall be offered besides the continual burnt-offering, and the drink-offering thereof. 

¹⁶And in the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, is Yehovah’s Pesach. ¹⁷And on the fifteenth day of this month shall be a feast: seven days shall Matzah be eaten. ¹⁸In the first day shall be a holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work; ¹⁹but ye shall offer an offering made by fire, a burnt-offering unto Yehovah: two young bullocks, and one ram, and seven he-lambs a year old; they shall be unto you without blemish; ²⁰and their meal-offering, fine flour mingled with oil: three tenth parts shall ye offer for a bullock, and two tenth parts for the ram; ²¹a tenth part shalt thou offer for every lamb of the seven lambs; ²²and one he-goat for a sin-offering, to make atonement for you. ²³Ye shall offer these besides the burnt-offering of the morning, which is for a continual burnt-offering. ²⁴After this manner ye shall offer daily, for seven days, the food of the offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto Yehovah: it shall be offered besides the continual burnt-offering, and the drink-offering thereof. ²⁵And on the seventh day ye shall have a holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work. 

²⁶Also in the day of the first-fruits, when ye offer a new meal-offering unto Yehovah in your feast of Shavu’ot, ye shall have a holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work; ²⁷but ye shall offer a burnt-offering for a sweet savor unto Yehovah: two young bullocks, one ram, seven he-lambs a year old; ²⁸and their meal-offering, fine flour mingled with oil, three tenth parts for each bullock, two tenth parts for the one ram, ²⁹a tenth part for every lamb of the seven lambs; ³⁰one he-goat, to make atonement for you. ³¹Besides the continual burnt-offering, and the meal-offering thereof, ye shall offer them (they shall be unto you without blemish), and their drink-offerings. 

29 And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have a holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work: it is a day of blowing of trumpets unto you. ²And ye shall offer a burnt-offering for a sweet savor unto Yehovah: one young bullock, one ram, seven he-lambs a year old without blemish; ³and their meal-offering, fine flour mingled with oil, three tenth parts for the bullock, two tenth parts for the ram, ⁴and one tenth part for every lamb of the seven lambs; ⁵and one he-goat for a sin-offering, to make atonement for you; ⁶besides the burnt-offering of the new moon, and the meal-offering thereof, and the continual burnt-offering and the meal-offering thereof, and their drink-offerings, according unto their ordinance, for a sweet savor, an offering made by fire unto Yehovah. 

⁷And on the tenth day of this seventh month ye shall have a holy convocation; and ye shall afflict your souls: ye shall do no manner of work; ⁸but ye shall offer a burnt-offering unto Jehovah for a sweet savor: one young bullock, one ram, seven he-lambs a year old; they shall be unto you without blemish; ⁹and their meal-offering, fine flour mingled with oil, three tenth parts for the bullock, two tenth parts for the one ram, ¹⁰a tenth part for every lamb of the seven lambs: ¹¹one he-goat for a sin-offering; besides the sin-offering of atonement, and the continual burnt-offering, and the meal-offering thereof, and their drink-offerings. 

¹²And on the fifteenth day of the seventh month ye shall have a holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work, and ye shall keep a feast unto Yehovah seven days: ¹³and ye shall offer a burnt-offering, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto Yehovah; thirteen young bullocks, two rams, fourteen he-lambs a year old; they shall be without blemish; ¹⁴and their meal-offering, fine flour mingled with oil, three tenth parts for every bullock of the thirteen bullocks, two tenth parts for each ram of the two rams, ¹⁵and a tenth part for every lamb of the fourteen lambs; ¹⁶and one he-goat for a sin-offering, besides the continual burnt-offering, the meal-offering thereof, and the drink-offering thereof. 

¹⁷And on the second day ye shall offer twelve young bullocks, two rams, fourteen he-lambs a year old without blemish; ¹⁸and their meal-offering and their drink-offerings for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, after the ordinance; ¹⁹and one he-goat for a sin-offering; besides the continual burnt-offering, and the meal-offering thereof, and their drink-offerings. 

²⁰And on the third day eleven bullocks, two rams, fourteen he-lambs a year old without blemish; ²¹and their meal-offering and their drink-offerings for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, after the ordinance; ²²and one he-goat for a sin-offering; besides the continual burnt-offering, and the meal-offering thereof, and the drink-offering thereof. 

²³And on the fourth day ten bullocks, two rams, fourteen he-lambs a year old without blemish; ²⁴their meal-offering and their drink-offerings for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, after the ordinance; ²⁵and one he-goat for a sin-offering; besides the continual burnt-offering, the meal-offering thereof, and the drink-offering thereof. 

²⁶And on the fifth day nine bullocks, two rams, fourteen he-lambs a year old without blemish; ²⁷and their meal-offering and their drink-offerings for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, after the ordinance; ²⁸and one he-goat for a sin-offering, besides the continual burnt-offering, and the meal-offering thereof, and the drink-offering thereof. 

²⁹And on the sixth day eight bullocks, two rams, fourteen he-lambs a year old without blemish; ³⁰and their meal-offering and their drink-offerings for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, after the ordinance; ³¹and one he-goat for a sin-offering; besides the continual burnt-offering, the meal-offering thereof, and the drink-offerings thereof. 

³²And on the seventh day seven bullocks, two rams, fourteen he-lambs a year old without blemish; ³³and their meal-offering and their drink-offerings for the bullocks, for the rams, and for the lambs, according to their number, after the ordinance; ³⁴and one he-goat for a sin-offering; besides the continual burnt-offering, the meal-offering thereof, and the drink-offering thereof. 

³⁵On the eighth day ye shall have a solemn assembly: ye shall do no servile work; ³⁶but ye shall offer a burnt-offering, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savor unto Jehovah: one bullock, one ram, seven he-lambs a year old without blemish; ³⁷their meal-offering and their drink-offerings for the bullock, for the ram, and for the lambs, shall be according to their number, after the ordinance: ³⁸and one he-goat for a sin-offering, besides the continual burnt-offering, and the meal-offering thereof, and the drink-offering thereof. 

³⁹These ye shall offer unto Yehovah in your set feasts, besides your vows, and your freewill-offerings, for your burnt-offerings, and for your meal-offerings, and for your drink-offerings, and for your peace-offerings. ⁴⁰And Moshe told the children of Isra’el according to all that Yehovah commanded Moshe.
