Week 121 Numbers 30:1-31:54 Overview
In this week’s portion we receive several seemingly unrelated teachings. The first is a teaching on the making of vows. The focus of this teaching on vows is largely upon vows made by three classes of women: a young woman living in her father’s house, a married woman, and a widowed or divorced woman. Following the narrative of Israel “vexing” the Midianites, we receive teaching concerning the purification of soldiers upon their return from battle, the purging of the spoils of war, and the division of the spoils.
